Now more than ever, with the recent uncertainties of DACA, further mass deportations in the horizon by the Trump administration, and the reality of homophobia and transphobia still present in our society, it is crucial for the narratives of undocumented queer and trans people have a space to tell their stories in mass media and pop culture. This is why familia is teaming up with Woke, a media company dedicated to making pop culture more inclusive, to bring these narratives to a mass audience
In the coming months Familia: TQLM will collaborate with Woke Productions to produce a pilot for a webseries called Here to Stay: Here to Slay following the lives of four undocumented queer and trans people of color as they navigate hope, fear, struggle, and joy while attempting to fight for their communities under this current political climate. More than just a story of struggle and overcoming hardship, Here to Stay: Here to Slay will focus on a more expansive narrative; revealing the authentic lives and complex identities of queer and trans undocumented people of color.
